Has it already been a year? The 61st Annual ASHG (and 12th ICHG)!

         October 5, 2011

I can’t believe it’s that time again! Next week we are heading off to Montreal, Canada for the week of October 11-15 for the 2011 American Society of Human Genetics annual meeting, this year in conjunction with the 12th International Congress of Human Genetics. We are excited as ever to hear what everyone has been up to, how your studies are going, and the latest advancements in the field!

Be on the look out for the Golden Helix Manhattan plot booth (#718 right across the aisle from Illumina) where we will be giving away fun t-shirts including “Who’s Your Daddy,” “Greatness is in my DNA,” and Ninja & Pirate Karyogram in both adult and child sizes, just for filling out a short survey. And of course if you ask nicely (or even if you don’t ask at all), we would be happy to show you the newest functionality of SNP & Variation Suite (SVS).

If you are currently doing DNA resequencing or contemplating trying it in the future, don’t miss the Golden Helix workshop by Dr. Bryce Christensen, “Effectively Deriving Meaning from DNA Resequencing Variant Analysis” on Thursday morning, October 13th at 7:00 am in Room 513-EF. Grab a cup of coffee and muffin and learn about the latest methods in tertiary analysis of NGS data.

We will also be hosting a second ancillary event with EA and Illumina on RNA sequencing, “Optimization of Illumina mRNA-Seq Experimental Results and Conversion to a User Friendly Analysis Solution.” Dr. Joel Parker, Principal Scientist at EA, and Gabe Rudy, Vice President of Product Development at Golden Helix, will discuss the benefits of RNA-Seq and why now is the best time to switch from microarrays. Hor d’oeuvres and an open bar will be provided for this evening event also on Thursday, October 13th, at 6:30 pm in Room 512-GH. Participation is limited; reserve your spot today.

It’s going to be a great conference! We hope to see you there, eh? …And that’s my 2 SNPs.

PS – If you can’t make it to ASHG this year, both of our ancillary events will be streamed live over the Internet. Register to view either of them on our website.
